Pro-poor business development is the key to poverty eradication. Farmers Own has a mainstream business development programme but not covered are a raft of support projects, almost all of which have a national dimension. Most of these projects relate to fields that constrain national development, so the intent of Farmers Own is to address the constraints in its mainstream programme while working with partners that can take the project outputs and assure dissemination and replication. In order to bridge that gap Farmers Own proposes eight support projects covering the following areas:
- Business information and training systems;
- Seeds and planting materials;
- Standards and certification;
- Business manager development;
- MD2 pineapple;
- Crop drying;
- Stage 1 fruit juicing;
- Crop and product development team;
- Accelerating the Farmers Own fair trade brand with an alliance and fresh fruit and vegetable exports;
- Tree material sourcing and nursery development;
