OUR MISSION
Poverty eradication through market led business solutions and the development of profitable fair trade business models hands on.

VISION
Within ten years a profitable company selling a portfolio of fair trade raw materials and processed products in the East African region and the G8 nations, with the Farmers Own ethnic brand well recognised and a turnover in excess of $60,000,000.
The first 40,000 clients earning $750 year minimum and operating within profitable private company structures contracted to Farmers Own, and with at least 40,000 more`people embarked on a business development path.

Our Corporate Social Responsibility
This means the proper management of our relationships with rural client groups, customers, suppliers, investors and employees, and the impact of our developing fair trade business on society and the environment. We see CSR as integral to good business and essential to our long term growth and success.

Products
We strive to improve quality and value through innovation in product development and market positioning so that our market difference brings benefits to our rural clients and upstream customers

Rural Clients
Our mission is to enable our rural clients to climb out of the poverty pit and make a decent livelihood whereby basic needs of food, clothing, shelter, health and education can be met. Their future lies in the ability of our company and our commercial partners to provide a fair trade business with vigorous organic growth.

Customers
Our success depends upon our ability to provide our customers with leading edge products of prime quality at fair trade prices in timely fashion, ensuring that our service and support to them is impeccable.

Consumers
Worldwide, consumers are sympathetic to all efforts to eradicate poverty but they also want to buy quality products with brand identity auditable to source (traceability). Our aim is to oblige and ensure their continued interest to purchase our products and to inform them frequently that their consumption brings profits to the poor who need their help.

Employees
We are building a gender balanced team and recognise that our human redsources is our greatest asset. We seek to provide training and opportunity for all our employees to the best of our ability so that they can grow themselves and the business.

Investment
To all those who trust us, whether rural people with their products, commercial partners, or donors we aim to be transparent and accountable, taking risk as appropriate but also behaving with financial prudence

Environment
Throughout the value chain we seek to manage and minimise our impact upon the environment. The core of our fair trade business is at the field level where we lever for environmental rehabilitation and sustainable land use by promoting conservation farming, seeking compliance with pro-environment standards and tree planting to an extent where carbon absorption will be in excess of the carbon emissions generated by distributing our goods.

Supply chain
We aim to encourage, as best we can, transparency and fair margins along the supply chain. When consumers understand that fair margins are provided for all along the value chain this will be a win win process that will generate more business

Communities
We enable the rural poor to organise and manage their own Farmer Action Associations (FAA), encouraging each one to start business growth and social goal funds by allocation from crop revenues. From the outset we ask women and we ask men to set one small social objective and one larger objective that can be realised in five years. We also invite external donors to provide funds to help people realise their social objectives. These objectives range from mosquito nets provision to school feeding programmes for aids orphans (small goals) to waterpumps and clinic with a nurse (large goal). We handle and supervise donor funds but insist that these funds arrive in the name of the donor, not Farmers Own.

Governance
Our governance policy covers business development strategy, tactics, performance and CSR issues and details are provided here.
