Partnerships are key to eradicating poverty. Farmers Own engages different sectors of society to harness their unique strengths. Government agents are contributing from the Poverty Eradication Commission and the Administration of Western Province. Other development partners include:

Interchurch organisation for development co-operation
ICCO's mission is to work towards a world where poverty and injustice are no longer present.ICCO gives financial support and advice to local organisations and networks across the globe that are committed to providing access to basic social services, bringing about sustainable equitable economic dvelopment and promoting peace and democracy.
ICCO recognises that to eradicate poverty we must focus on small-holder development.Under the auspices of its theme of Fair Economic Development (FED), ICCO is providing financial support to Farmers Own.

International Fair Trade Association
IFAT works to improve the livelihoods and well being of disadvantaged producers by linking and promoting Fair Trade Organizations, and speaking out for greater justice in world trade.
Farmers Own and IFAT are working together to promote fair trade with an emphasis on food products. The majority of the poor can access land and have the knowledge and skills to produce food. All they need is encouragment and a process to facilitate their involvment in fair trade market opportunites.


Softorque
Softorque, are developers of specialist professional applied software. They have provided numerous services pro bono, all in support of our work. For some years Softorque have hosted our web site on one of their servers.
Softorque are poised to provide technical assistance with CD and internet information provision for farmers and front line development agents.


Everest Enterprise
Everest Enterprises Ltd is a Horticultural Exporting Company.Their guiding slogan "Quality Is My Responsibility" drives everything they do. Right from the crop growing, production, packing and to distribution, the focus is on quality. Everest has concentrated its efforts in ensuring control over the products it exports and the major areas have been the development of an Agronomic Structure and upstream facilities for both own and contracted production and improvements of packhouse facilities and procedures.
Everest Enterprises and Farmers Own are currently developing a business plan with a view to supplying European markets with a range of premium quality fruit and vegetable fair trade products in volume, with traceability and appropriate certification for quality and IFAT fair trade.


Cofta
The Cooperation for Fair Trade in Africa (COFTA) is a network of Fair Trade producer Organizations in Africa involved and working with disadvantaged grass root producers to eliminate poverty through Fair Trade. COFTA assists these producer groups principally to develop quality products and access profitable markets through shared efforts and resources within the principles and structures of Fair Trade.
COFTA is also a forum that offers regional opportunities to members to pursue common fair trade goals and aspirations, and an institutional regional platform for International Federation for Alternative Trade Network/International Fair Trade Association (IFAT) for Africa members.


CIP
International Potato Center (CIP) is one of the international research centres of the CGIAR group. In Kenya a most important thrust of the work is to provide appropriate cultivars and encourage growth, consumption and marketing of orange fleshed sweet potato (OFSP) varieties. The rationale for this research and development process is a noble cause.90 countries have a public problem with vitamin A deficiency. In sub-saharan Africa 140 million children under 5 suffer. The deficiency leads to irreversible damage to immune systems and blindness. Daily consumption of OFSP will avoid the awesome problems.
CIP and Farmers Own have begun to work in concert to accelerate production and marketing of OFSP. CIP is providing technical and advisory assistance while Farmers Own is developing arrangements to market more OFSP in Kenya and in an extension of the partnership with Everest Enterprises to export premium grade OFSP to Europe.

Umoja Maintenance Centre
Umoja Maintenance Centre (K) LTD. is a miller of sunflower seed oil. Contract farming, bringing stabilized pricing and other sustainable arrangements is the win win situation for all along the value chain, but many businesses remain myopic and want to aim for low farmgate spot trading. Prateex Shah the company MD become the first person to sign up a supply contract with Farmers Own for sunflower as the programme started last season. The company offered the best price of all the main millers. The trading arrangements worked well and the whole can be considered a fair trade for producers and the miller.
Farmers Own and Umoja Maintainance Centre (K) Ltd intend to continue and develop their contract relationship in the next short rains season (the main sunflower season)
